Frequently Asked Questions
How is Moonlighting Solutions different from a Locum Tenens or Physician Recruitment Firm?
Moonlighting Solutions is a staffing firm. We provide night and weekend coverage typically on a part-time, long term basis. We can provide coverage for as few as 1 night a week or as many as 7. Our physicians provide coverage up to 12 hours on weeknights and up to 48 hours on weekends. All of our physicians are US-trained.
What services do your physicians provide?
On weeknights, our physicians provide after hours coverage taking call, admitting and consulting on patients and providing cross-cover services. On weekends, our physicians also perform rounds on inpatients as needed. It is our goal to integrate our physicians into your practice to function just as your provider would.
In urgent care and clinical settings, our physicians can be scheduled to see patients in the facility during weekday after-hours clinics or on the weekends.
Moonlighting Solutions prides itself in providing innovative answers to your particular call coverage problems. If you have an unusual request, ask us. We will find a solution to meet your needs.
What specialties do you staff?
We provide staff for primary care and nearly all medical subspecialties. Additionally, Moonlighting Solutions contracts with groups to provide hospitalist, urgent care, anesthesia and OB/GYN coverage.
Under certain circumstances we are also able to provide staff for general surgery or surgical subspecialties. These requests are reviewed on a case by case basis. Please contact us for more information.
How are your rates determined?
Our rates are determined by the geographical area where coverage is requested, hours of coverage, the patient volume and type of services you require.
How much is this going to cost my practice or hospital?
While the rates for coverage vary as described above, much of the cost for our physicians can be recouped through billing for the services provided. Many practices have actually turned a profit by using our services to increase the daytime productivity of their physicians allowing them to see more patients and expand outreach opportunities. Reducing physician burnout has also led to decreased physician turnover and lower recruitment costs.
Wouldn't using extenders such as nurse practitioners or physician's assistants be a cheaper way to cover call?
While allied health providers do offer a cost-effective way of providing call coverage, they are not able to provide the scope of care that a Board Certified physician offers and they require your physicians to provide continued back-up services. It is our goal to integrate the highest quality moonlighting physicians into your practice at night and on weekends to provide your patients the same level of high-quality care you give them during the day – all at a reasonable price for your practice or hospital.
What types of facilities do you contract with?
We contract with all types of providers including private practices of all sizes, hospitals, single specialty or multi-specialty groups, intensivists and hospitalist staffing firms among others. We also have several arrangements with multiple groups who have developed both single specialty as well as multidisciplinary call pools.
Who provides the malpractice insurance?
Moonlighting Solutions offers full malpractice coverage (with tail) for all its physicians. However, your practice or hospital does have the option to use your own malpractice carrier to insure our physicians as long as a valid certificate of insurance (COI) is provided documenting the appropriate level of coverage.
How long does it take to get started?
Once a contract is signed, it usually takes 2-3 months for us to get physicians through the hospital and insurance credentialing process and have the physicians ready for duty.
How do I know if Moonlighting Solutions is right for my practice or hospital?
Moonlighting Solutions prides itself on developing individualized solutions for each call coverage problem. To see if we can come up with the solution to your situation, call or e-mail for a site-specific proposal. We are also happy to provide references from other practices/hospitals that use our services.
